It was the haircut that launched a million makeovers but Jennifer Aniston has confessed that she hated 'the Rachel'.
The style, named after her character in the US
sitcom Friends, was one of the most popular of the 1990s. Women besieged
salons clutching photographs of the actress and demanding the same cut,
which was layered and blow-dryed to perfection.
However, more than decade on, Aniston has revealed her true feelings. "How do
I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I've ever seen," she said in
a new interview.
"What I really want to know is: how did that thing have legs?"
Referring to her hairdresser, Chris McMillan, she told Allure magazine: "I
love Chris, and he's the bane of my existence at the same time because he
started that damn Rachel, which was not my best look."
The style was named after Aniston's Friends character, Rachel Green. The
sitcom ran for a decade and its US finale was watched by over 52 million
people, making it one of the highest-rated programmes of all time. Fans
refuse to give up hope of a reunion and last year Aniston hinted that she
would consider returning for a one-off episode.
The 41-year-old actress appears opposite Friends co-star Paul Rudd in her
latest film, Wanderlust, which is released in the autumn.
Other celebrities have since taken her crown as a style inspiration. Salons report that the pixie crop is the latest celebrity hair trend to take hold, as worn by actresses Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan and Michelle Williams.
